Classic Films at the Library
IT is not more than one hundred and thirty-one years ago that Eadweard Muybridge captured his first stop-action images of the galloping racehorse "Sallie Gardner" in Palo Alto, California. With this 12-frame sequence began the history of Cinema, the technology that became an Art; a fun-house mirror of the age, showing us sometimes how we were, sometimes how we are, but most often how we would like to think we were. In this relatively short span of time, a vast number of films have been produced world-wide, in many countries and cultures, and in an exuberantly wide range of quality, subject matter, and point of view. The Lambertville Free Public Library has acquired a number of these, more or less by accident, which have achieved -- according to those who keep track of such things -- Classic Status, and which are listed below. These are available for loan to our patrons, on a first-come-first-served basis. All films listed here are DVDs unless otherwise noted. |
